Dallas Supervisors 8-7

The Dallas County Board of Supervisors convened Tuesday morning in regular session.

The first items on the agenda each involved the Secondary Roads Department. First the Board approved an application to the Farm to Market Review Board to change designated roadways near Van Meter. Next, they signed off on a contract with Iteris for the Clear Path weather and pavement forecasting service and support, which County Engineer Al Miller says is a similar cost to the service they used last year but is more user-friendly. Third, the Board set November 20th at 10 a.m. as the time and date for a public hearing to vacate I Court north of Willis Avenue in Perry, at the request of Tyson Foods.

The Supervisors also held three public hearings during the meeting, the first two dealing with easements along the Raccoon River Valley Trail with MidAmerican Energy. One involved access, and the other underground electric. Representatives from MidAmerican explained the need for the easements, which were both related to running power to the new Apple Data Center. Hearing no objections from the public and the approval of the Conservation Board, the Supervisors approved both easements.

The third public hearing involved a maintenance agreement for a pioneer cemetery located on private property in Adel Township. Members of the Township Board of Trustees and the property owner himself each spoke during the hearing. With the help of County Attorney Wayne Reisetter, the entities reached a proposal everyone agreed with, and the Supervisors approved the resolution. Other items approved included the annual Tax Increment Financing (TIF) forms to be submitted to the state, and the appointment of Natalie Gillett to fill a vacancy on the Veterans Affairs Commission.

The Board also discussed but took no formal action on an amended user agreement with Xenia Rural Water for the law enforcement center, a 28E agreement and bylaw amendments for the Metropolitan Planning Organization, and the service coordinator position for area 1A of the Healthcare Coalition. The meeting concluded with two closed sessions, the first to discuss purchase of particular real estate, and the second for pending litigation.
