A successful 2018 high school football season is in the books at Adel-Desoto-Minburn Community Schools. The Tigers made a five-win improvement on the gridiron this fall under first-year head coach Garrison Carter. ADM’s freshman, sophomore, and junior football athletes practiced for an extra three days last week and closed the fall with a 59-6 junior varsity victory over the Lynx of Council Bluffs, Abraham Lincoln High School last Thursday in Adel. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network spoke with Carter after Thursday’s game and shares he’s pushing for all his athletes to continue competing in a varsity sport this winter. “The first thing we’ll talk about with these kids about when we sit down in our one-on-one meetings is which winter sport are you going to play,” Carter said, “Then, which spring sport are you going to play and so on. There’s no substitute for competing, and in a 3A high school like ADM we have to have our kids out for every sport and start to build a culture that we’re going to win in anything we do.”
Carter says for those athletes wanting to bypass one of the sports seasons, Coach Rupe will have them rolling with an offseason weight training program. The boys’ basketball and wrestling programs both start their preseason practice period on Monday, November 12. ADM’s first boys’ basketball and wrestling competitions take place after the Thanksgiving Holiday.
