Guthrie County residents purchased used treasures for a good cause at the Guthrie Activity Center last weekend.

Relay for Life of Guthrie County hosted their inaugural community garage sale to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. While the county Relay for Life committee organized the garage sale, individual teams raised funds, according to committee member Vicki Crannell, “We’ve got two different teams that were doing food, one team that did lunch and dinner last night and then another team that’s doing breakfast today and they do that to raise money for their teams.”

As of Saturday morning Crannell said they had already exceeded the amount raised in previous fall events like last year’s zombie run. Kim Durst with the American Cancer Society says the community garage sale generated $2,000, and she thanked those who contributed their time and items to make it a successful event.
