The Fall sports seasons sponsored by the Greene County school district ended on Friday night with a 45-20 Class 2A football playoff first round loss to Benton Community in Van Horne. Coach Mitch Moore’s Rams end the 2018 season with eight wins and two losses, a big turnaround from the 1-8 seasons of 2017 and ’16.Several outstanding senior players were on the team, but more than half the starters were juniors. The outlook for 2019 looks bright with the same schedule for next season, only the game sites will change.
Three Greene County students swim for Boone under an athletic sharing agreement. The Toreadors were fifth at Ankeny on Saturday in a Girls’ swimming & diving regional meet. The top finishes for Greene County students were by juniors Ellie Madson and Julia Saul, 11th and 12th, respectively, in the 200 yard freestyle. Boone had three relays qualify for the Nov. 3 State Championships.
Attention now turns to Winter sports. New girls’ basketball head coach Tyler Westhoff officially begins practice in one week, on Monday, Nov. 5. New wrestling head coach Zach Beekman and returning boys’ basketball head coach Chris Nelson begin official workouts with their squads on Monday, Nov. 12.
