pheasantIt’s opening weekend for pheasant hunting season in Iowa.

As we’ve previously reported, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Pheasant Roadside Survey showed pheasant numbers in west central Iowa were up 75-percent and in central Iowa, it was a 62-percent increase. Greene County Conservation Director Dan Towers says there is one requirement that hunters must have on for safety.

“They have to wear an article of blaze orange (clothing) that usually is a hat or a vest. A vest is good, it’s a little more visible. But that prevents most of those accidents from happening.”

Towers reminds everyone of public hunting ground in Greene County. He says there’s close to 3,000-acres at Dunbar Slough, Snake Creek Marsh near Grand Junction and a wildlife area in Bristol Township. Pheasant hunting season is from October 27th through January 10, 2019.
