Today is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, which provides Americans an opportunity to properly dispose of unwanted, or expired prescription medications.

Residents in Guthrie and Adair Counties can help prevent drug overdoses and death year round by taking their prescription drugs to drop off locations. Prescription drug abuse is a very real concern in mostly rural Adair County, according to Sheriff Jeff Vandewater. In attempt to prevent these problems the Adair County Sheriff’s Office, through a grant from the Governor’s Office of Drug Control Policy, has added a drop box to the lobby of the Adair County Public Safety Center. The drop box is available 24/7. If you arrive after business hours or the lobby door is locked, just inform the dispatcher on the intercom and they will let you in. Guthrie County residents can use the drop box located at Dowd Drug Pharmacy in Guthrie Center.
