"My American Girls: A Dominican Story"
“My American Girls: A Dominican Story”

There are just a few more programs remaining in the Perry Hometown Heritage “Becoming American” film series, and the next one is Sunday evening.

The documentary series has been held at a variety of locations over the last two months, and this time it’s headed to the Perry Grand 3 Theater. Program Coordinator Alissa Whitmore describes the topic and film to be discussed at the event. “This week’s theme is all about family and community. So we’re specifically looking at how family and community ties really plan an essential role in people’s migration stories, and how they have adapted to American life. The film that we’ll be screening at the movie theater is called ‘My American Girls: A Dominican Story,’ and it looks at the Ortiz family who are immigrants from the Dominican Republic who are now living in Brooklyn. So it’s going to be a really funny, moving story. And then the discussion after that will be ISU Extension and Outreach’s Jon Wolseth, (who) will be moderating that for us.”

The film viewing and discussion will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the theater. There is no cost to attend, and no registration is required.
