Of all the contested races in Dallas County for the upcoming general election, the most crowded is for Board of Supervisors, District Three.
Four individuals are each vying for the seat currently occupied by incumbent Republican candidate Kim Chapman, including Democrat Pat Stalter, and Robert Greenway and Michael “Wombat” Walrod, who are running with no party affiliation. Chapman, who hails from Adel, has spent the last eight years as a member of the Board while also having a career in emergency medical services. One issue he plans to address if re-elected is continuing to develop a smart growth plan to keep up with the rapidly increasing population of the County.
Stalter is a retired teacher from Adel, who previously worked in the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School District and is now the Pastor at Woodward Christian Church. If elected, she hopes to improve on the County’s public health system, making it easier to acquire and more cost-effective. Next on the ballot, Greenway is an independent insurance agent and real estate investor from DeSoto, who also spent a term on the DeSoto City Council. He says an issue he would tackle if elected is keeping property taxes lower, particularly in the wake of last year’s countywide assessment hike.
Finally, Walrod is also from DeSoto, and he used to operate Hawkeye Auto Salvage but now moves around through open ministries as an ordained minister. His focus if elected would be on fair treatment and wages for County employees, and promises to be someone employees and residents can come to when in need.
