The 2019 high school football season started officially this Monday for the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers squad. The Tigers took advantage of the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s open practice period the first three days this week, having the freshman, sophomore, and junior football athletes continue their development under first-year head coach Garrison Carter. The week culminated last night with a pair of nonvarsity games against Council Bluffs, Abraham Lincoln. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network visited with Carter after the game, and he says this extra week of practice is among the best things he’s ever done as a coach. “These last three days were really special and really fun to get to work with next years guys,” Carter said, “I think it was an eye-opener. The first time we came out here Monday and all of a sudden the seniors were gone, and it required our juniors to step up and understand this is their team now.”
The next season got off on a right foot as ADM topped Council Bluffs, Abraham Lincoln, 59-6 in the junior varsity contest. Carter says he’s encouraging all his football athletes to go out for other sports during the offseason. The ADM Tiger varsity football team will open the 2019 season for real next August at home against the Bondurant-Farrar Bluejays.
