From a hula girl to the Incredible Hulk, several straw-filled creatures are hanging out in downtown Guthrie Center this month for the “4th Annual BOO HOO Scarecrow Contest.”

Main Street Guthrie Center invites local businesses and civic organizations to get creative and put up a festive scarecrow in a front window, outside a store, or on one of the downtown benches. Residents will then get to vote for their favorite scarecrow on the Main Street Guthrie Center Facebook page or fill out a ballot at a participating business from October 30th-31st. Winners will be announced during the downtown trick-or-treat event from 5-6 p.m. on Halloween.

MSGC Director Dana Buster explains why they hold the contest, “We just think it’s a really fun event. I think it makes shopping downtown fun to see what everyone has done and how creative everyone can be, and just some friendly competition with all the businesses.”

Cash prizes will be awarded to the first through third place finishers. To participate in the contest, contact Buster at mainstreetgc@netins.net or 641-332-2674.
