The West Central Valley School Board met in regular session Wednesday.

The meeting began with a presentation from seventh and eighth grade social studies teacher Leslie Wiles about the secondary building’s transition to using Google in the classroom. Next the board took action to approve personnel changes which included recommendations to hire four paraeducators. For further retention of paraeducators, Superintendent Lance Ridgely suggested providing professional development opportunities for their paraeducator staff next summer. Ridgely also presented a community needs survey that will be distributed online and physically by request for community members to complete from October 29-November 2. Ridgely hopes to have the results discussed at the board’s next meeting.

This year’s certified enrollment numbers were presented which show an increase in 35.84 students. Ridgely said he’d like to get an enrollment projection study done in the next few months to see what the enrollment trend might be in order to effectively plan facility use in the future.

Finally, the board discussed creating a new early retirement incentive plan as their current plan is inactive. Action is expected on a new plan at their next meeting which will take place on Wednesday November 14 at 7 p.m. in the high school music room.
