The second biggest race of the Iowa High School Cross Country season takes place today all across the Hawkeye State. The Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers varsity cross country teams will travel to the western border to the Class 3A State Qualifying meet hosted by Glenwood Community Schools. The three lowest scoring teams along with the first 15 individual runners will qualify for the 2018 State Cross Country meet held Saturday, October 27 at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge. The ADM boys cross country team is looking for their second straight trip to state after ending an 11-year drought last fall. No current ADM girls runner has qualified for the Class 3A State Meet. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network sat down with ADM cross country coach David Zwank after last Thursday’s Raccoon River Conference meet in Adel. He shares with us his knowledge of the Glenwood Lake course. “We ran there in 2015,” Zwank said, “It’s quite an interesting course. It’s an easy course to run yourself out early on if you don’t run it right. It’s challenging, it’s not easy but theirs also some aspects that if you know it, I think can be very advantageous (for us). ”
The Tigers will compete against runners from Atlantic, Boone, Creston, Clarke, Denison-Schleswig, Gilbert, Harlan, Kuemper Catholic, Perry, and Winterset. The Class 3A State Qualifying Race begins at 4 p.m. from the Glenwood Lake Park. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network will share who qualified for the Class 3A State Meet on tomorrow’s local sports page.
