The end of the fall sports season begins tonight all across the state and in Guthrie County two West Central Activites Conference volleyball teams meet again with their season hanging in the balance. The Panorama Panthers varsity volleyball team (16-10; 7-3 WCAC) looks to continue one their best seasons in program history against the Van Meter Bulldogs (15-12; 6-4 WCAC) in the opening round of the Class 2A Region 3 bracket. These two teams met two weeks ago in Panora with Panorama falling to Van Meter in four games (24-26, 11-25, 25-23, 23-25). Senior Brooke Halterman topped Panorama with 10 kills and a perfect 13-13 serving. Panther first-year head volleyball coach Jessica Nail joined the Wahl McAtee Tire and Service Center Guthrie County PM Sports Page to promote tonight’s playoff opener. Nail talks about getting a second chance against Van Meter. “We found out right before we played them that we got them again,” Nail said, “The girls hopefully stayed positive after that loss knowing that they (get to play them) again and I think they’re confident playing them again. I don’t know if its a good thing or a bad thing playing teams twice. You know something about them but they know something about you too.”
The winner gets the opportunity to travel to Earlham next Monday for a quarterfinal contest against the Cardinals (16-10; 6-4 WCAC). The Panthers topped Earlham in a road contest on August 23, winning in four sets (27-25, 12-25, 25-20, 25-18). Tonight’s Class 2A Region 3 opening round match between Panorama and Van Meter serves at 7 p.m. from Panora.
