Flood conditions on the Raccoon River have significantly lowered recently, and Highway 169 is now open north of Adel. However, the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area will have a new weather issue to deal with starting Monday.

The National Weather Service has upgraded the Freeze Watch to a Freeze Warning for much of central Iowa, including Dallas, Greene, and Guthrie counties. The warning will begin at 1 a.m. Monday, as temperatures are expected to be between the mid-20’s and 30 degrees. The below-freezing temperatures will result in a killing freeze that will effectively end the growing season in central Iowa.

As for the flood levels, the Raccoon River near Bayard has dropped below flood stage, though it’s still just above the 15-foot flood mark in Perry. All roads in the area that were closed due to water on the road have now been reopened, including Highway 169 at the bridge north of Adel.

Raccoon Valley Radio will continue to keep you updated on the current weather conditions.
