Two games remain in high school football’s regular season schedule and tonight is the last road contest for the West Central Valley Wildcats varsity team. The Wildcats look to return to winning form in Cardinal Country against district foe Clarinda. Clarinda has split their matchups with Guthrie County’s other two high school football squads, topping the Panorama Panthers 28-27 in Panora on September 21, and lost 38-20 to the AC/GC Chargers the following week at home. West Central Valley allowed 26 unanswered points last week in a week seven district loss at AC/GC. Wildcat head football coach Eric Addy was a guest on Monday’s Wahl McAtee Tire and Service Center Guthrie County PM Sports Page to promote tonight’s matchup versus the Cardinals. Addy spoke about the size of the Cardinals. “They’re big, physical, and they like to run the ball,” Addy said, “That’s probably the big thing that sticks out to me. I know they got a big running back and a big offensive line that’ll come out and hit you if you’re not ready for them.”
According to Clarinda’s roster on quikstatsiowa.com, Cardinal senior running back William Shull stands 5’10 and weighs 243 pounds. Shull lead Clarinda with 674 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. One team will return to the win column as Clarinda’s dropped their last two games while West Central Valley has lost their previous three contests. The varsity kickoff between the Wildcats and Cardinals takes place around 7 p.m. from Clarinda High School.
