The Greene County High School Vocal Department is gearing up for their first concert of the school year.
The fall vocal music concert will be held on Tuesday at 7:30pm in the high school auditorium. Director David Heupel says the Treble Choir will perform first. The 40-student ensemble will sing four tunes including: “Awake My Soul and Sing,” “Boats Sail on the Ocean,” “Wynken, Blynken and Nod,” and “Tue, Tue.” Then this year’s all-state hopefuls will perform. The 15 participants will sing their two auditions pieces, which are “Musicks Empire” and “El Hambo.” The concert will wrap up with the Concert Choir performing four songs. The 60-student group will sing: “Blow Winds of Fall,” which also the theme of the concert, “Life’s Mirror;” “Lux Beatissima;” and “American Folk Rhapsody.”
Heupel was also recently elected to serve on the Iowa High School Music Association’s Executive Board. Heupel tells Raccoon Valley Radio the Executive Board works directly with the Executive Director Alan Greiner to serve all high schools in Iowa and make decisions that will hopefully provide the best possible music experience for students.
Tuesday’s concert is free and open to the public.
