Runners from seven Raccoon River Conference members spent Thursday afternoon on the campus of Adel-Desoto-Minburn Community Schools. ADM’s school grounds were the makeup site of the 2018 Raccoon River Conference Cross Country Meet after Tuesday’s initially scheduled race was washed out in Huxley. The Tigers came away with three all-conference runners including the top two finishers in the boys’ field. Sophomore Nate Mueller defended his Raccoon River Conference individual championship from last season, winning the race with a time of 16:05. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network caught up with Mueller after his conference winning performance. “It feels good,” Mueller said, “Winning (conference) again and knowing that I improved my time from last year at this time so I’m ahead of where I was last year going into districts.”

Mueller won last year’s RRC boys individual championship with a time of 16:21. Sophomore Ethan Jurgens finished a distant second with a race time of 16:39. Jurgens also shared his thoughts on his race performance with Raccoon Valley Radio. “I’m really excited,” Jurgens said, “I got my new (personal record) today and going into state qualifying it’s a big boost to my confidence, and hopefully I can run better there.”

Overall, ADM placed 4th in the final boys’ team standings with 90 points. Carlisle repeated as the Raccoon River Conference boys champion with 23 points. ADM sophomore Hannah Welch represent the Tigers on the All-Raccoon River Conference girls squad with a 15th place finish at 21:54. Welch was elated about her performance when she spoke with Raccoon Valley Radio. “I’m really happy with my placing (today),” Welch said, “I’m happy with my time. I’m just happy to just get out here and run this race. It was perfect weather for running.”

The ADM girls cross country team finished fifth in the final Raccoon River Conference race standings with 135 points. The Ballard Bombers defended their Raccoon River Conference team championship with 23 points. The Tiger runners will prepare the next few days for the state qualifying meet that’ll be held next Thursday in Glenwood.
