The ACGC football team is coming off its most impressive win in program history after cruising past the Clarinda Cardinals, 38-20. A reason for that success comes from behind center. Junior quarterback Bryce Littler had arguably his most composed game of his career in leading the gold and black to their second win of the season.
Littler finished with a single-game, career high 54 rushing yards on just three carries. His run of 42 yards in the 2nd quarter was the longest run of his career. Head Coach Cody Matthewson says it’s a delight to see the confidence from his quarterback. “We’ve been harping on him, all season honestly. ‘Don’t be afraid to put the ball in your hands and run with it. Don’t be looking to pitch all the time.’ Finally, he got three yards up the field and tucked it away and said all green grass and let’s go. Probably the fastest I’ve seen him run.”
Matthewson says that confidence also carried over to the other side of the ball. “You could see him light up on defense. Started to make some plays in the open field. When you’ve got a guy playing both ways that (the mentality) kind of carries over both ways. Confidence not only on the offensive side of the ball, but on the defensive side of the ball too.”
Littler’s 54 yards contributed to a Charger record 400 yards in the game. In the previous five games, Littler registered -1 yard on 22 carries. The Chargers will look to keep the momentum going as they host the West Central Valley Wildcats at Jarman Field on Friday. You can hear the game live on KKRF2 and RaccoonValleyRadio.com, with kickoff set for 7pm from Guthrie Center.
