The trial for a Nevada man accused of setting a house fire in Guthrie Center and killing two young girls inside wrapped up its first week on Friday. Friday’s testimonies in the case against 27-year-old Patrick Ryan Thompson concluded discussion on the fire itself
Court officials tell Raccoon Valley Radio the prosecution finished their questioning of Michael Lillebo from the State Fire Marshal’s office. They then brought up three more witnesses. One of the witnesses became so upset that prosecutors stopped questioning them, allowing the witness to be excused. Another witness testified that they played XBox the entire night of the incident with Noah Exline via internet connection from another location
Exline is the brother of Paige Exline, one of the two girls who died in the house fire.
The final witness was Guthrie County Sheriff’s Deputy Jesse Swensen. They will conclude questioning with the deputy tomorrow. The prosecution is expected to end their side of the case by Wednesday and present over 170 exhibits of evidence. Then the defense will have their opportunity to present their case if they so choose.
Thompson is facing two class A felonies for first degree murder, two class B felonies for attempted murder, and one class C felony for first degree arson for the May 2017 incident. He faces up to life in prison without parole if convicted of first degree murder, and up to 25 years if convicted on any of the other charges.
Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you daily updates from the trial.
