The ability to move the chains on third down is one of the many aspects of a successful football team. The Panorama Panthers converted 42 percent of their third downs plays (19-45) into first downs during the squad’s 3-1 nondistrict schedule. However, the first two games of the district season saw Panorama’s third-down conversion rate get cut in half, converting five of their last 24 third down conversions (20.8%). During Friday’s 21-13 loss at Mount Ayr, the Panthers converted two of their 12 third down opportunities. The Panthers failed to convert four separate fourth down chances against the Raiders as well. Sophomore Alejandro Mendez completed 11 of his 25 pass attempts for 120 yards and two touchdowns, adding 96 yards rushing. Senior Gracen Welburg and junior Luke South recorded a touchdown reception each in the setback. The loss evens Panorama’s overall record at 3-3. The Panthers return to the road this Friday when they travel to Dallas County for a matchup with the defending champion and No. 1 ranked Van Meter Bulldogs.
