rock the block

A reminder: starting today and running through Saturday, Dallas County Habitat for Humanity will be hosting their latest “Rock the Block” event in Perry.

Coordinator Omar Padilla says volunteers will meet at 8 a.m. each morning at Wiese Park for coffee and donuts. They will then receive their instructions and head out to the four houses chosen to be renovated through the program. There will be a lunch break at noon, and then volunteers will work until around 3:30 p.m. Padilla says they will accept volunteers at any time, all they need is a good work ethic and a desire to help out. “We’ll be working on four different projects in Perry, and I encourage everybody to give me a call, send me an email, or come out and just volunteer. It’s fun and you’ll be doing a great good!”

Padilla adds, the idea behind “Rock the Block” is to do improvements to a few strategically-placed houses in a neighborhood, which has proven to spur other homeowners in the area to update their own houses.
