The Greene County varsity volleyball team improved to 2-3 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play with a Tuesday night victory over PCM in Monroe. Scores were 19-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-23. Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s team improved to 6-15 on the season.
The coach told Raccoon Valley Radio the Rams weren’t able to overcome a sluggish start in set one. “Things started flowing for us in the second set, and we carried that momentum into another set win in the third set. The fourth set, you could sense the girls feeling the pressure of the match on the line, and we fell behind 10-17, but then something switched on and we won 25-23.”
Heisterkamp added, “Our Brazilian Blessing, Luisa Slompo, played strong for us with 10 kills. Our sophomores, Lily Muir and Brianna Osterson, were fierce in the front row with 11 and nine kills, respectively. Our setter, Aubrey Heupel, was all over the court determined to put up hittable balls, contributing 30 assists. Bottom line, it’s great to get another conference win!”
The Rams are off until traveling to Story City to play Roland-Story on Oct. 2.
