Fall is finally here and with the chilled air and colorful trees comes harvest time.
Guthrie County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Field Agronomist Mike Witt says harvest has come a little early this year. “Things are moving along pretty quickly. When we had that really, shall we say, heavy bout of rain the last week or two, what it really did was it shut off the crops. They decided that they weren’t going to produce anymore. They were going to change from their green colors all the way to their brown and that happened really quick.”
As far as individual crops, Witt says corn is early while soybeans are actually about on time. As far as production is concerned the crop output will be fairly mixed based on moisture levels throughout the county. Though he does say the output level overall is about average among corn and soybeans.
