This year’s American Idol winner is coming to Wild Rose Casino and Resorts in Jefferson on Friday.
Clarksville native Maddie Poppe will be making her second stop on her solo tour, after her opening performance at another Wild Rose location last weekend in Clinton. The night is also to honor women who have come in first, with that in mind Wild Rose Chairman Gary Kirke got the inspiration to launch the “First Ladies Night” event at their Jefferson location. Before Poppe takes the stage at 8pm at the Greene Room events center, other “first women of Iowa” will take part in the celebration. Dignitaries including Governor Kim Reynolds, US Senator Joni Ernst, Iowa House Speaker Linda Upmeyer and Iowa Auditor Mary Mosimon will share the stage.
Gary’s wife Sue says while those notable women will be at the concert, there are other women in Iowa that have broken barriers in high-profile professions including: the only woman elected as the state’s Secretary of Agriculture Patty Judge; Mary Kramer, who was the first woman to serve as the president of the Iowa Senate; first elected woman as the state’s Attorney General Bonnie Campbell; Mary Sue Coleman, who served as the first woman president of the University of Iowa; first woman to serve as Des Moines Police Chief Judy Bradshaw; first woman president of Iowa State University Wendy Wintersteen; and Jefferson’s own Olympic gold medalist Doreen Wilbur.
Following the local dignitaries appearances will be a performance by another Iowa singer-songwriter Patresa Hartman. Poppe will be the headliner in the sold-out show.
