The Dallas County Board of Supervisors convened Tuesday morning in regular session.
During open forum, Sheriff Chad Leonard introduced new Emergency Management Coordinator AJ Seely, who then spoke about his background and plans for the position. Next Amanda Shetler, the Iowa Natural Resources Conservation Service’s new District Conservationist for Dallas County, introduced herself to the Board. The first action item was an update to the County’s key and building access identification card policy. County Department Heads had been working to create a written policy for obtaining access to secure County buildings, which the Board approved as presented.
A great deal of discussion was then had regarding a contract with System Works for mechanical start up and testing with the new law enforcement center. The Samuels Group presented the contract to the Board, but County Attorney Wayne Reisetter nixed any formal approval as the construction managers didn’t go through proper public bidding procedures. However, after some discussion everyone came to an agreement that System Works would be categorized as a subcontractor under the Samuels Group, so no action was needed by the Board.
The Supervisors also set two public hearings for October 9th at 9:30 and 9:45 a.m., the first for a supplemental food program memorandum of understanding, and the second for a storm sewer easement under the Raccoon River Valley Trail west of Waukee. Following that they approved a proclamation naming September as National Voter Registration Month. Finally, they held more discussion on a regional intergovernmental 28E agreement with West Des Moines Water Works for a potential water source, but no formal decision was made.
