A new fundraiser for charity is happening this weekend and there’s still time to register to help support a local cause.
The Amazing Race for Charity has designated all proceeds to go toward the Bringing Opportunities and Optimism to Students and Teachers (BOOST) organization. BOOST supplements funds for Greene County School District teachers so that they can do more for students throughout the school year.
Last year, BOOST allocated $54,170 from their inaugural fundraiser. A total of 42 projects were funded this year, over $33,000 was distributed to classrooms and educators, another $5,650 went to 113 classroom funding, $5,000 for teacher appreciation gifts and events, plus other events and requests totaling over $10,000. Amazing Race for Charity Organizer Ian Wilkinson says the race takes place Saturday at 9am on the Bell Tower Plaza in Jefferson. Teams of two will face several physical, mental and experience-based challenges. Wilkinson hopes lots of people sign up for the new fundraiser, because it isn’t like a typical 5K race.
“What about those intellectual people or maybe not so physically-gifted people that really want to get a chance to experience competition? Where it really levels the playing field with these physically gifted people because a great deal of this race is mental. It gives everyone an equal chance to do very well, and compete, and win this race.”
The top three teams will win prizes at the post-party following the race at the Bell Tower Plaza. Team registrations are $50, plus there are opportunities to volunteer and be sponsors. More information can be found by clicking the link below.
