Two Raccoon River Conference rivals battled on the hardwood in Adel Tuesday night with sole possession of third place in the league standings on the line. ADM and Winterset alternated wins throughout the match with the Tigers dropping the fifth set to the Huskies (22-25, 25-22, 22-25, 25-20, 11-15). At the end of the night, ADM head volleyball coach Mary Beth Scott was pleased with the Tigers effort. “I was really proud of the way they played,” Scott said, “They battled; we got behind in a couple of games, but that didn’t phase them. They kept attacking, and attacking. I knew it was going to be a good match.”
ADM and Winterset were tied four separate times early in the fifth set before the Huskies closed the match on a 10-6 run. Junior Josi Lonneman recorded a double-double in the setback with 14 kills and 29 digs. Senior Jordyn Crow added 11 kills while junior Delaney Bertman contributed six kills. The loss drops ADM’s overall record to 8-11 and their conference mark to 2-2. Last night was the start of three straight home matches for the Tigers. They’ll host the Carlisle Wildcats tomorrow night and the Boone Toreadors next Tuesday in Raccoon River Conference action.
