The Guthrie Center City Council met in regular session Monday.
Fire Chief Dave Embleton updated the Council on some upcoming training and controlled burns. Embleton said the department will burn the nuisance property on the corner of Newton and 2nd Street on Saturday. They may also partake in training at the fire hall involving automotive fires.
The Council then discussed another nuisance property held by the City at 103 Grand Street. They approved accepting salvage bids for the property, with all bids due to City Hall by October 22nd. The Council also approved a sale of the City-held property at 206 South 8th Street for $1,500 and set a public hearing for the sale on Monday, October 8th at 6:30pm. They then set a public hearing for the vacation and disposal of the alley between Oak and Brown Streets for the 8th.
The Council then discussed Community Development Block Grant funding through Region XII Council of Governments.They set the Request for Proposal submission date for October 8th. The meeting concluded with further discussion on recent vandalism in the mausoleum at the cemetery. The vandalism included cracks found in the stained glass and miscellaneous items found inside. No formal action was taken on the discussion, but the Council will look into further security measures for the building.
