WeaverHeadshot-240x300One candidate for Iowa House District 47 has concerns over the privatization of the state’s Medicaid system.

Democrat candidate David Weaver tells Raccoon Valley Radio from patients to the CEOs of Greene County Medical Center and Boone County Hospital, no one has said that the privatization of Medicaid has worked for them. If elected, he wants to instill more oversight on the Managed Care Organizations if the current system remains the same going forward.

“I saw some legislation that wanted to change that to annually. And we need to be doing this at least every quarter if not much more. If we’re not able to go back to what we had before. We really need to oversee these companies.”

Weaver is also a proponent of extending the one-cent sales tax for public schools to the year 2049, as well as utilizing more services from community colleges for individuals that may not want to go to a four-year institution.

“I think community colleges offer something that is very important for high school students here in Boone and Greene counties. So I would really like to emphasize community colleges and those trade jobs. Because Iowa is a low-wage state and we need to get our wages up higher.”
