The Stuart Fire Department is hoping to continue their community outreach efforts with a new program. Three Stuart residents will benefit from the department’s inaugural “Adopt-A-Neighbor” program.
The Stuart Fire Outreach team will help the homeowners with small projects. Fire Chief Mike Renslow talks about the reason for beginning this program. “We’re really trying to always give back to the community, not just show up in big, shiny red trucks. Our outreach committee started this program, to help (the homeowners) with tasks they just can’t do. So it’s just giving back to the community that we all so dearly care about. Giving back and helping each other out. It’s what small town living is all about.”
Renslow hopes this program will start a trend with other communities. The most recent project the outreach team completed was repainting the concession stand shelter house at the Stuart sports complex earlier this summer. He also hopes this will encourage volunteer efforts not just through the fire department, but in other organizations as well.
