Light Up the Knight 2017

Tomorrow, St. Patrick’s Catholic School in Perry is holding their 5th annual “Light Up the Knight” event at the Perry High School track.

The event isn’t open to the general public, but anyone with children who attend the school, or members of the church congregation are welcome to attend. Organizer Jody Lutterman tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the event is planned every year by the Home and School group, which is St. Pat’s parent-teacher organization. They raise money through the event to pay for things such as field trips, teacher supplies, and other activities that enrich the students’ experiences. Lutterman explains what the event entails. “‘Light Up the Knight’ is our fundraiser for the year, so the kids go out and ask for donations for their school. The more that they raise, the more glow items that they earn. And so this Saturday is the celebration event for ‘Light Up the Knight,’ and with the money they earned, they walk laps around the track with all their glow items on when it gets dark.”

The students have been gathering donations for the past three weeks, and as of today their fundraising is complete. However, Lutterman says if anyone wants to donate, they can contact the school. Additionally, while it’s free for students and families to attend the event, there will be concessions they can buy, other glow items for sale, and a dunk tank that’s $1 for three balls. Any additional money raised at the event will also go to the Home and School group. Lutterman says they typically bring in over $9,000 through the event, which is enough that they don’t have to ask for funds the rest of the year.

Other activities at the event include bounce houses and a variety of games. The Raccoon Valley Radio Big Red Radio will also be in attendance to play music and provide public address services.
