Earlier this month the Waukee Historical Society took some eager historians down White Pole Road. The trip featured stops in Stuart, including the Rock Island Depot, Stuart All Saints Center, and the Bonnie and Clyde bank robbery marker.
Guthrie County Historical Village Foundation and Museum Board Member, and the tour guide for the trip, Rod Stanley shares the overall impressions from the group for one of those stops. “We actually went to the (Rock Island) Depot too which is really, really an asset to the Stuart community. It’s really, really nice and people were really impressed with the community center and the depot. It’s good publicity for Stuart. Those people are going to go back (to Waukee) and talk about it.”
Stanley says everyone had a good experience along the route and hopes the trips continue in the future. The crew also stopped by Linden Street Sweets for a treat as they went along the road.
