The start of the district season keeps the Panorama Panthers varsity football team in Guthrie County tonight. The Panthers welcome the Clarinda Cardinals to Panora this evening for the Class 1A District 8 opener. The meeting is the first between the school districts on the gridiron and the two teams posted opposite records in the nondistrict schedule. Panorama went 3-1 in the first four games of the season; Clarinda posted a 1-3 record in the nondistrict season with all three setbacks by seven points or less. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network spoke with Panorama head football coach Mike Kauzlarich on Monday’s Wahl McAtee Tire and Service Center Guthrie County PM Sports Page. Kauzlarich talked highly of Cardinal senior running back William Shull. “Their big running back is about 240 pounds (standing) about 5’10,” Kauzlarich said, “He’s put together really well. He’s going to be a handful for our defensive guys. It’s going to be a physical game.”
Shull enters tonight’s game as Clarinda’s top rushers with 483 yards and six scores. The Panthers returned to winning form last Friday during homecoming against the Central Decatur Cardinals, winning 49-40. Clarinda was on the wrong end of a 20-16 result versus Southwest Valley last week. The Class 1A District 8 season opens tonight as the Panorama Panthers host the Clarinda Cardinals. The varsity game kicks off around 7 p.m. from Panorama Stadium in Panora.
