This Saturday is the second annual Genesis Development 5K run/walk fundraiser in Jefferson.
The race will start and end at the Webb House in Jefferson. Operations Manager Kathy Pittman says this is a fundraiser for Jefferson-area clients that Genesis serves. She describes what they did with the funds raised at last year’s event.
“One activity was going out to Springbrook (State Park). The men spent a night out there and the women spent a night out there. Also (we) went to Kansas City (for) Worlds of Fun (and) Oceans of Fun. They spent the night in a motel. We went onto Crown Center the next day. The last event that we did for some of those that don’t like stay away from home got to go out to dinner and a movie. So we went to Des Moines, went out for supper, went to the movie and come home.”
In addition to the trips, Pittman adds they were also able to purchase needed household items for the three residential homes in Jefferson.
This year’s theme is “Overcoming Obstacles,” where participants will be asked to go through different obstacles along the race route. Registration will take place prior to the start of the race at 9am. Cost to participate is $35 for adults, $15 for students and those five and under can run for free. There will also be an after-race party near the Webb House. To register, click the link below.
