We are coming up on the final days of the Hometown Teams traveling exhibit with the Smithsonian Institute on display at the Greene County Historical Museum in Jefferson.

Since its opening on August 11th, the public has been by to check out the exhibit, which features unique sports like roller derby, to rivalries, and it even includes local exhibits with sports and fine arts memorabilia from Cooper, Paton-Churdan, Rippey and East Greene School District. Students in the Greene County and Paton-Churdan School districts have also made special trips to experience the exhibit first-hand.

Volunteer Ann Ostendorf says the exhibit covers a variety of different topics.

“I don’t want to say it’s all about sports, because it’s not. It’s about being a team, there’s band, and there’s (a part) about being a fan, and there’s things that have to do with Iowa like Dan Gable and the 6-on-6 (girls basketball). And then own communities (and) all of the things that they have to showcase. I went to the Rippey ballgames, went to the Cooper ballgames when they had those semi-pro teams and it brings back lots of memories.”

The exhibit is free, but donations are also accepted for the museum as well. The exhibit is today from 3 to 9pm, Saturday from 10am to 6pm and this Sunday is your final opportunity from noon to 6pm.
