perry Fire deparmtentFire crews battled a short-lived fire Sunday morning at an apartment complex in Perry.

According to the Perry Police Department, the Perry Fire and Police departments, Perry First Responders and the Dallas County Emergency Medical Services responded to the call of a fire at 710 18th Street at 4:58am. Assistant Fire Chief Brian Eiteman tells Raccoon Valley Radio when he arrived on scene, he could see smoke coming from one of the complexes. By the time the first fire truck arrived on scene, flames were seen on top of the roof. Eiteman says they evacuated all of the occupants of the structure where the fire originated.

Fire crews were able to contain the fire to the one second-story apartment where it had originated. The single occupant of the apartment was at work at the time of the incident. The flames were extinguished by 5:25am. Eiteman notes that the apartment was a total loss. There was also some water damage to the apartment directly below and some smoke damage to surrounding apartments that Eiteman says can be easily vented with a fan.

No one was hurt in the incident and Eiteman adds the cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
