The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday. During the open session, Supervisor Clifford Carney recapped a recent meeting he attended with area county supervisors and the Heart of Iowa Community Services mental health region.
Carney reported that the organization is approximately $630,000 over budget and called for CEO Darci Alt’s resignation. The regional committee is working to see where cuts can be made and there were no plans to approve a budget amendment for mental health services. There was no action taken on Carney’s request for Alt’s resignation, though there will be a special meeting next month to discuss the budget. Heart of Iowa currently serves Guthrie, Dallas, and Audubon counties.
Transfer Station Executive Director Jotham Arber also discussed last week’s meeting with Guthrie County communities on shared services. He told the Board they have instituted a universal levy rate of $20 per capita. The rate will go into effect July 1st of next year pending final approval by the Supervisors and City Councils.
County Conservation Director Joe Hanner also informed the Board that they will be trading in a 2011 truck for a newer model, which is covered in the department’s budget. Finally County Engineer Josh Sebern updated the Board on patching projects. Due to finding more than expected work, the contracts have been extended through next spring for projects to be completed.
