acgcThe ACGC football team took a 1-2 record into Neola Friday night as they clashed with the 2-1 Tri Center Trojans. Though the Charger defense once again held their opponent under 20 points, they were unable to connect on the offensive end. The Chargers fall to 1-3 on the season as the Trojans edged the gold and black 14-6.

Things were looking bright from the opening play as the Trojans fumbled the ball on the kickoff return. Junior Kolby Jacobe fell on it and set the Charger offense up in great field position. Unfortunately junior quarterback Bryce Littler threw an interception near the goal line, allowing the Trojans to regain possession. On that next possession Trojan senior quarterback Bryson Freeberg dropped a dime into the arms of classmate Trevor Nelson for an 86-yard touchdown to put the home team up 7-0.

They doubled down in the 2nd after a 25-yard passing touchdown from Freeberg to senior Bryant Barrier. The Chargers blanked the Trojans in the second half, the second consecutive week the gold and black have shut out an opponent after the halftime horn. Though freshman Charlie Crawford’s 57-yard rushing touchdown in the 3rd was the only score ACGC could muster themselves. After short drives back and forth, ACGC had one final shot. They converted two fourth down conversions on their final offensive drive before Littler fumbled the ball on a fourth-and-long to give Tri-Center the victory.

ACGC sacked Freeberg six times, with sophomore Gage Butler accounting for 2.5. Sophomore Lucas Marsh and senior Ben Kingery also collected a fumble recovery in the first half. Kingery and Crawford both finished with 66 yards rushing to lead the gold and black offensively. ACGC will return home next Friday to host the defending Class 1A state champions in the Van Meter Bulldogs.
