The kicking game is important for any football team, and Greene County is no exception. After Brazilian foreign exchange student Leo Marquez had a solid season kicking in 2017, there were questions about who would handle kickoffs and placements in 2018.

So far, so good. Junior Nick Breon was two for two on extra points and did well on kickoffs in the season opening 14-6 win at Perry. Breon told Raccoon Valley Radio he had never kicked in a game previous to the “Cowbell Game” on Aug. 24.

Junior Cael Fisher, the junior varsity kicker last season did not go out for football initially, but the soccer player, joined the squad last week and went five for five on extra points, and he made his only field goal attempt, from 22 yards out. In addition, he average just short of 50 yards per kickoff vs. Nevada in the Rams’ 38-10 victory.

Seven for seven on extra points and one for one on field goals in the first two games. Head Coach Mitch Moore is batting 1.000 when it comes to kickers.

The Rams will try to keep the kicking hot streak going this Friday at Saydel High School on the Eagles’ all-weather field. Kickoff on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com is 7:30 p.m. with coverage starting at 6:30 p.m.
