Everyone is invited to the next Greene County Historical Society program this Friday.
It will focus on the County’s ten “pioneer” cemeteries. The cemeteries date back to the County’s earliest settlers and are no longer active, but are still preserved and overseen by a six-member county commission appointed by the Board of Supervisors. The commission was organized in 1990 after longtime historian Valerie Ogren took the lead to make sure the pioneer cemeteries were protected and cared for.
The program will be led by the commission’s secretary Ada Ross at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cedar Township on Friday at 1pm. Prior to the free program is a lunch at noon. The lunch is $10 for non historical society members and $8 for members. You must reserve a lunch by calling Vice-President Nancy Hanaman today at 515-436-7684. There’s no registration needed for the 1pm free program.
