Spring Lake State Park northwest of Grand Junction is the home of the Greene County Rams Cross-Country Invitational. It’s slated for tomorrow with middle school races at 4:15 p.m. and high school races for girls and boys in two classes (A and AA) to follow.

Greene County coach Jeff Lamoureux has been monitoring the course, much of which sits a bit low and near the lake, but he’s hopeful the meet can be run. “We’ll go out and take a look today. We were there on Monday night and there were some soft spots. One of the advantages we have is that much of the course is on gravel or on paved roads, and being a State Park, it’s built to withstand some foot traffic. If we had this meet on a golf course, we would have cancelled it already. We’ll keep monitoring the conditions and hope for the best.”

Teams from 23 different programs are scheduled to take part, so that means several hundred runners from middle school to varsity, and hundreds of fans as well. Fans would do well to arrive early enough to park on hard surfaces.
