Thursday, September 6 is a big day of varsity sports for Greene County. The Rams host their cross-country invitational that day at Spring Lake State Park northwest of Grand Junction, and the volleyball team is home to start Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play in the middle school gym with South Hamilton (Jewell).

Coach Jeff Lamoureux’s cross-country runners have been busy since the season began on Aug. 23, as the Ram Invitational will be the fourth meet of the young season for Greene County. The Rams are coming off their best team finishes of the early season when the girls were second and boys seventh at the West Central Valley Wildcat Invitational last Thursday.

Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s volleyball Rams have had just two playing dates, and they stand 2-4 in matches and 5-9 in sets after going 2-4 and 4-9 on Saturday in Lake City at the South Central Calhoun Early Bird Tournament. Thursday’s match with the Hawks will be the first dual meet of the season following a triangular and Saturday’s tournament. The Rams lost to SH in Lake City by scores of 16-21, 16-21.
