The Practical Farmers of Iowa will conduct another field day in Greene County later this month.
On Thursday, September 13th, Practical Farmers will be at Deal’s Orchard near Jefferson. The program, “Cider and Pumpkins at Historic Deal’s Orchard” will look at their pumpkin production, as well as how they process and market their freshly made hard cider. The four-generation family farm first planted apple trees in 1917 and now includes 45-acres, with 25 different types of apples. They also grow sweet corn, tomatoes, squash, and Christmas trees.
The field day will take place from 9am to noon and includes a free lunch. Meal reservations must be made by Monday, September 10th by calling Debra Boekholder at 515-232-5661 or email her at debra@practicalfarmers.org. The event is free and open to the public.
