Perry Lutheran Homes recently received the 2018 LeadingEdge Care and Services award for their Meaningful Mission Projects Program.

LeadingAge Iowa annually recognizes one organization for programs and services that dramatically benefit residents, and also serve as models for innovation. The PLH program recognized by the award includes: making bandages out of sheets that are used for healthcare in Africa; creating comfort crosses for victims of natural disasters; and packing food for Meals from the Heartland. LeadingAge representatives said the Perry Lutheran Homes’ residents have been given purpose through helping the cause, and have in turn helped countless people around the country and world, making the program a no brainer for the award.

Since the Meaningful Mission Project Program began, PLH residents have made more than 35,000 bandages, 3,000 comfort crosses, and packed over 78,000 meals. They’ve also helped make newborn kits, pillowcase dresses, denim shoes, and coloring books. The administration at Perry Lutheran Homes was excited to receive the award, and emphasized that the program isn’t about keeping residents busy. Instead, they say it’s about enriching the residents’ lives by serving others, staying integrated with the community, and helping them find purpose.
