It’s only two games, but the early returns on the offense for Coach Mitch Moore’s Rams show a balance between running and passing. Greene County has averaged 365 yards of total offense in its 2-0 start to the season, with 240 of that total in the air and 125 on the ground.
Quarterback Brent Riley threw for 248 yards and two touchdowns in the season opening 14-6 victory at Perry, and followed that up with 231 yards and three TDs last Friday night in the home opening 38-10 win at Linduska Field vs. Nevada. After being intercepted three times vs. the Blue Jays, there were no Greene County passes intercepted by the Cubs.
On the ground, Clint Dennhardt has had the most yards and most carries through the first two games. He’s been consistent with 16 carries for 80 yards vs. the Blue Jays and 16 carries for 84 yards, and a touchdown vs. the Cubs. Colby Kafer had 12 carries for 62 yards and a TD vs. Nevada after getting only six carries and 18 yards in the Perry game.
The Rams felt they had a deep receiving corps going into the season, and so far that has been the case. Trey Hinote, Lance Hughes, and Carter Morton, each have seven receptions, and seven different players have caught passes. Morton has 211 receiving yards and 2 TDs, with Hughes at 91 yards and a pair of touchdown receptions. Kafer has just two receptions, but one of those went for 87 yards and a TD vs. Nevada.
