The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently partnered with Motor Vehicle Enforcement (MVE) officers to educate students from around the country at the Dallas County scale facility.
The USDA brought 16 high schoolers in their AgDiscovery program to show them what the MVE looks for when livestock is shipped on Iowa highways. Officers gave the participants a hands-on experience in the various aspects of shipment of animals, including regulations that make the travel safe for the livestock and the public.
AgDiscovery is a competitive program that runs for two weeks in Iowa, and gives high school students a glimpse into college life and careers related to veterinary medicine, animal science, laboratory diagnostics, and wildlife biology. The USDA’s goal for the program is to show students different aspects of agricultural careers, to give them a better perspective on opportunities they may not have considered.
