spring_lakeIt’s the Labor Day weekend, which means the unofficial end of the summer season. But there’s still plenty of outdoor activities for everyone to take advantage of in Greene County.

Greene County Conservation Director Dan Towers says a popular destination in the county is Spring Lake Park with boat rentals and the beach area at the concessionaire, including a skating rink.

“One of the few indoor, wooden floored, skating rinks in the state, I think there’s only two or three. It’s open every Friday and Saturday night. Families go through because there’s activities for their kids and it’s popular.”

He talks about other activities that can cater to other people’s interests.

“All of our (Raccoon) river accesses, we’ve got seven river accesses with concrete ramps. The river has been up and down a lot this year. It’s come down now to where, if you’re used to being on the river (kayaking or canoeing) it’s at a safe level now. And then there’s other areas. If you just like to hike, Squirrel Hollow Park is a beautiful park that doesn’t get a lot of use if you just want a place to go and get away, that would be a good place.”

Towers adds there’s fishing at Spring Lake and at Pound Pits, plus small game hunting seasons open today as well.
