Sewer Plant Open House

Thursday evening, concerned and curious Perry residents went to La Poste for the first of likely several open houses regarding the Waste Water Treatment Plant improvement project.

City Administrator Sven Peterson, as well as Matt Ferrier and representatives from Bolton and Menk, and plant operators were on hand to answer any questions and address any concerns brought by the community. Peterson felt there was a lot of good conversation had by everyone who attended, and believes people left the open house feeling better about the project. The presentation included a series of boards outlining the parts of the facility that will be tackled, as well as underlining why improvements are needed.

Peterson says the boards will be useful as they host more open houses in the near future. “We do hope to have others, I’m probably going to have this be sort of a ‘travelling road show’ of what’s going on at the Waste Water Treatment Plant. So I will hopefully be going to other events and things going on around town to get the word out about this project. We’ll also be having hopefully some more events to invite the public out to the Waste Water Treatment Plant to actually see for themselves what’s going on up there.”

The project is expected to cost around $18 million, and will cause the water rates for Perry residents to steadily climb moving forward. Because of that, Peterson believes keeping the public informed about the necessity of the plant improvements will keep people from getting upset about the increased rates.
