Severe Outlook 8-31

A band of severe thunderstorms made its way through the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area early Friday morning, activating the Severe Weather Action Team.

At around 4:55 a.m., the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for eastern Guthrie County, northeastern Adair, northern Madison, and all of Dallas County. The threats included potential quarter-sized hail, 60-mile-per-hour straight-line winds, and heavy rainfall. The storm moved out of Guthrie and Adair counties at around 5:16, so those counties left the warned area. The warning was allowed to expire for Dallas and Madison counties at 5:39, as the storm weakened below severe limits earlier than expected. No damage was reported relating to the storm.

Five members of the Raccoon Valley Radio Severe Weather Action Team, as well as WeatherEye meteorologists participated in the live coverage of the storm. The storms may not be done for the day, however, as the National Weather Service has placed the entire listening area under a slight possibility for severe weather through Saturday morning. If additional warnings are issued today, count on Raccoon Valley Radio to keep you informed on any severe storms in the area.
