The evening entertainment for this year’s Guthrie County Fair kicked off with the annual Bill Riley Talent Search at the Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center Auditorium Thursday night. Three Sprouts and six seniors competed for the coveted spots at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.
The trek from Muscatine was certainly worth it for sixteen-year-old McKenzie Lofgren as she took the qualifying spot for the Seniors with a musical theater performance. Cherokee’s Libby Peterson took second and Guthrie County dancers Seth Reno and Chloe Webster placed third. Farrah Ganske of West Des Moines danced her way to the Sprout Division’s qualifying spot. Lillian Dong of Perry placed second and Brooklyn Miller took third.
The fair continues through Monday and Saturday’s slate is packed with fun for all ages. The parade kicks off the featured activities, going through town at 10am. This year’s theme is “Let’s Go Dancing with the Steers” and Governor Kim Reynolds will be in the lineup. Events continue throughout the afternoon with the Antique Tractor Show at noon, corn picking and corn shelling from 1-3pm, and Old Fashion Plowin’ at 4pm.
The Goat and Dairy Cattle Show will get the evening docket going at 6pm. The 2019 Guthrie County Fair Queen will be crowned at 6:30 at the Grandstand and a concert with the Pork Tornadoes will follow at 8pm.
Raccoon Valley Radio’s Big Red Radio will be at the fair through Sunday from 10am-6pm and Monday from 10am-3pm. We’ll be broadcasting live, playing music, and making local announcements. For a full schedule, click on the link below:
